Austin today - Albany tomorrow?
Information delayed is information denied. Texas has opened up its spending to public scrutiny. By logging onto the Texas Comptroller's window on state spending, individuals can monitor where the money goes. Sunlight is a great disinfectant, and with thousands of potential observers of the details of public spending, major abuses are less likely. Austin has a lot of techies who considered the opening up of government books a challenge. New York's reform-minded Governor Eliot Spitzer or Comptroller Thomas DiNapoli might want to emulate this. New York has techies who can do this job.

I write about the biographical and economic threads in history. Special interests include symbols of family, such as coats of arms, and the behavior of families in a crisis.
